GREAT FOR TEACHERS! Earth Science Kit ES 200 and ES250 are both designed for the teacher in mind. Each kit contains 18 specimens in a compartmented box with photo identification, instructional booklet with detailed specimen and geology descriptions and explanations. Also included is a worksheet/chart that can be photocopied for each of your students, as well as ideas for easy hands-on activities and experiments. How do the two kits differ? Basically, ES200 is your "traditional" mineral and rock kit that contains samples of common rock-forming minerals and the rocks that they form. ES250 is a little "less traditional". It also contains samples that talk about basic geology. But it also uses other minerals to talk about economic uses of minerals, or interesting properties and processes. For example, galena demonstrates luster and cleavage; malachite demonstrates streak; magnetite represents magnetism; the rock cycle of quartz to sandstone to quartzite, etc.  Prices below.

Earth Science Kit ES-200. MINERALS ROCK! Common minerals and the rocks they form. 18 specimens. 6 minerals: quartz, calcite, muscovite mica, hornblende, microcline feldspar, biotite mica. 4 sedimentary: conglomerate, fossil limestone, sandstone, shale. 4 igneous: granite, diorite (intrusive); obsidian, pumice (extrusive or volcanic). 4 metamorphic: quartzite, slate, mica schist, gneiss.

Earth Science Kit ES-250. MINERALS RULE!  More common minerals and the rocks they form. ES250 is a little "less traditional". It also contains samples that talk about basic geology. EARTH SCIENCE KIT RM-100   CALIFORNIA ROCKS AND MINERALS.  The first in our series of state and regional kits, we started in our back yard in response to requests from local teachers who wanted to teach state geology. The 18 minerals and rocks in a compartmented box are those which are either historically interesting, or economically and geologically significant to the state of California. Obsidian was used by early Indian settlers to make tools and weapons, and serpentine is the state rock. The six minerals: milky quartz, sulfur, talc, magnetite, actinolite, mica. 3 sedimentary rocks: tar sand, shale, limestone. 5 igneous rocks: vesicular basalt, diorite, obsidian, pumice, scoria. 4 metamorphic rocks: mica schist, serpentine, diorite gneiss, quartzite. Instructional book and identification photo included.

Check to see if we can still offer the following on request:

TOOTHPASTE RECIPE KIT!  This is a fun one.   Like many products we use everyday, toothpaste has traditionally been made from minerals (calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate) from the earth.  (Not all toothpastes presently use these ingredients.)  This kit contains everything you need to make a basic toothpaste.  You just need water, a container to mix it in, and extra flavorings and food coloring if you wish (i.e. peppermint oil, red food coloring, etc.).  The kit contains calcite and apatite for a pre-recipe experiment demonstrating the hardness of minerals and how it applies to the fact that calcium carbonate can remove residue from your teeth without actually abrading them.  The kit also contains calcium carbonate in two forms - white crystalline limestone and chalk so you can try using two different products.  Plus sodium bicarbonate, a straw and a stir stick.  A single recipe with ingredients - $29.95.  The group package with a Master or Teacher set plus enough ingredients for 4 additional students.- $69.95.  (More samples can be added on request.)

EARTH PAINTS & PIGMENTS   Minerals are one of the natural sources for coloring and pigment in paints and dyes.  Our early ancestors used minerals such as red ocher, azurite, graphite, and kaolinite to paint cave walls, bodies and objects.  This set includes samples of hematite red ocher, malachite, azurite, and kaolinite.  Also included is pure natural graphite to demonstrate how this mineral was used not only for coloring but as a crude drawing pencil to outline shapes.  Each set also includes a booklet, paint "recipes" and general information on the history of natural pigments and paint.  Package contains a Master Teacher set and ingredients for at least 4 students - $75.00

Mineral Kit M-100. CRYSTALS, ORES, AND GEM MINERALS:

This glue-down kit has 24 mineral specimens. The specimens represent minerals which are crystallized and collected for this reason or have unusual crystal habits, those which can be cut into gemstones, and minerals which are mined from the earth for their useful and valuable metals. The usual minerals are: Rhodochrosite, galena, aquamarine, rose quartz, aventurine, apatite, orpiment, quartz crystal, actinolite, pyrite, calcite variety iceland spar, bornite, ruby, fluorite, apophyllite, molybdenite, eudialyte, iridescent specular hematite, garnet, chalcocite, kyanite, aragonite, psilomelane, amethyst. Instructional booklet included. $34.00 Content may vary based on best material available.

Mineral Kit MR-350. INTERESTING ROCKS AND MINERALS:

This kit has 18 minerals and rocks that have some physical property or appearance, geological or economic significance which makes them interesting. Four countries and ten U. S. states are represented. The specimens in the compartmented box are: Quartz crystal, agate geode, Satin spar, amazonite, microcline, copper, golden barite, fluorite, muscovite, lepidolite, garnet, Gypsum "Rose", magnetite, ulexite- "TV" rock, bauxite, kyanite, banded ironstone, petrified wood. Instructional booklet and identification photo included. $35   (Add $2.70 per set if you would like samples numbered)

Mineral Kit MK-450. STONES IN COLOR AND FORM :

This glue down kit has 24 mineral specimens that display interesting or unusual crystal form or color. Something that makes you go, "Now that’s an octahedron!" or "Talk about yellow!". The specimens are: Amethyst, amazonstone, calcite, green fluorite octahedron, copper, selenite, golden barite, sherry topaz crystal, satin spar, rose quartz, pyrite, garnet, doubly terminated quartz crystal, malachite, biotite, actinolite, salmon calcite, iridescent hematite, tourmaline, kyanite, sulfur, botryoidal bornite, apatite. Instructional booklet included.  Content may vary based on best material available. $34.00 Content may vary based on best material available.  This kit not always available.

EARTH SCIENCE KIT RM-120 NEVADA ROCKS AND MINERALS.  One reason Nevada was the second state on our kit list is the fact that on one hand, as a neighboring state, California and Nevada share some geological borders and thrust fault systems, but on the other hand the geology and rocks and minerals can be quite different. A second reason was our developing relationship with operating mineral extractors in Nevada. Several indicated a desire to preserve non-ore asset minerals for natural history and educational purposes. A kit creates another avenue for disseminating these minerals to those who care either about Nevada geology or about the important economic role minerals play in our day to day lives. 18 specimens in a compartmented box with photo and detailed information.  Golden barite crystal from Barrick Gold's Meikle mine, massive barite from the Northumberland, barite crystal from AngloGold's Murray mine, calcite cleavage from the Meikle mine and Betze-Post pit, calcite scalenohedron, calcite iceland spar, realgar with orpiment, Barite from the Glamis Dee mine, "sugar-cube" quartz-coated barite from the Murray mine, Stibnite and quartz cast after stibnite from Murray, garnet, diatomite, obsidian and graphite schist. Instructional book and identification photo included.  Content changes so check if exact content is important.   Check for availability.  Some of the above mining companies no longer allow non-ore mineral recovery and we may not be able to provide these sets in the future.

Miscellaneous sets.  If you have used one of our sets custom made for the sponsor of a conference or seminar you attended (e.g., a stone trade association), and you want an extra set, we sometimes have sets left over or sometimes are able to make extra sets for you with permission of the original conference sponsor.  E-mail us.
